Spanning 500 feet long, the industrial booms we installed in one of the most polluted rivers in the world didn’t appear overnight.
Nearly two years in the making, this monumental project involved intense planning and studying seasonal weather patterns. Why you ask?
In winter, the river seems calm, its flow meandering leisurely. But come summer, the interior of Guatemala unleashes torrential rains, turning the once-peaceful river into a debris-filled onslaught.
It had to be tough if we were to put something in its path. And let us tell you, putting something in its path was… tough.
Over the next few weeks, the rain will intensify and with it, so will the need to stop the flow of plastic before it reaches the ocean.
