Check out this school made from ecobricks in El Quetzalito, Guatemala where several of our crew members are from! What's an ecobrick? It's a plastic bottle packed with used single-use plastic to create a building brick! This school was built by @semillas_del_oceano, an NGO based in Guatemala. In 2018 they launched #24ThousandEcobricks where they taught children how to fill the plastic bottles with the non-recyclable single-use plastic they had. After they collected over 36,000 ecobricks, the building process began! Once the structure was made, El Quetzalito community members of all ages helped weave the ecobricks into the chicken-wire. To prevent the chicken-wire from getting rusty, it was covered with concrete and painted. The classroom is now being used by young schoolchildren in the El Quetzalito community and stands as a regular reminder that it is possible to give trash a second chance at life and that it's vital to continuously raise awareness about ocean plastic pollution. What are you thoughts on this school made from ecobricks? #4ocean #ecobricks #oceancleanup #plasticwaste #plasticpollution
