Is worm saliva the solution to plastic pollution? It's a little more complicated than that.
Recently, researchers found that saliva in the wax worms contains two enzymes, which helps to degrade polyethylene: one of the most common types of plastic out there.
If the enzymes in the saliva can be made synthetically (by humans in a lab) degradation can occur without using a ton of worms every time. This would help mitigate CO2 emissions.
