Retrieving a 450-pound ghost net is no easy feat. The islands of Hawaii are plagued with heaps of lost and abandoned fishing gear. It took diligence and team work to recover and unravel this beast of a net.
Recently out in Hawaii, our crew assisted @SustainableCoastlinesHawaii and @DebrisResearch to remove this HUGE ghost net. It started when SCH received a phone call through their Marine Debris Hotline about a large net that washed ashore off the coast of Waimanalo, and they realized they needed an extra hand.
