Jembrana is one of Bali’s most isolated and untouched areas. Ironically, despite the lack of tourism, Jembrana is a high impact area for plastic pollution.
Within the Jembrana Regency lies The Ijo Gading River, a large river that accounts for 12% of the plastic that enters the ocean from inland Bali. This side of the island is located in the path of a powerful ocean current called the Indonesian Throughflow, which flows from the Pacific into the Indian Ocean through the straits of Indonesia.
