Last week, our Bali cleanup crews paid a visit to Teluk Terima Beach and were able to recover 2,962 pounds of trash.⠀

One of the questions we get asked a lot is "Where does all the trash come from?"⠀
⠀
Ocean plastic pollution comes from many different sources. In fact, a good amount of the trash you see polluting countries like Indonesia, doesn't actually come from Indonesia, but rather is carried there through currents and tides from outside sources that are miles and miles away.⠀

Some of the top sources/reasons for ocean plastic pollution include:⠀
⠀
1. When developed countries ship their waste to countries that do not have sufficient enough waste management systems to handle the amount of trash they've been sent⠀
2. When river systems that empty into the ocean have trash either dumped into them or is carried into them after major storms and flooding⠀
3. When commercial ships dump or abandon their fishing gear directly into the ocean while out at sea⠀
4. When natural disasters occur and waste management systems fail⠀
