We are often asked what happens to all the plastic we remove from the ocean. Well, once the plastic is recovered from the ocean, coastlines or river mouths, we bring it back to our regional operation bases. At the base, we will weigh it (that’s what you see on our TrashTracker) and then carefully sort the plastic by type (PET, PP, HDPE, LDPE) and color. After sorting, we bale it and evaluate whether the plastic can be properly recycled and turned into new products. This is our highest priority and 4ocean is working hard everyday to develop new and innovative products made from ocean plastic. If the trash can’t be recycled due to deterioration, contamination or other reasons, we look for the next best option available to us such as advanced thermal recycling (ATR) where the trash can be turned into clean energy. Please stay tuned for future videos that will explain this process in detail! #4ocean #plasticfree #plasticpollution #saveourseas #oceancleanup
