Our trip up the river was a huge success, we were able to recruit individuals from the community and local officials that wanted to help us clean up this coastline. We were loading up super sacks in just 90 minutes. Each super sack on average holds 225 pounds of plastic. For instance, that would be 4,275 PET bottles. ⠀
This stretch of coastline became a collection hub for plastic and other marine debris which made this more of a plastic removal project than a typical 4ocean cleanup.⠀
In an effort to stop the plastic from entering the ocean, locals would push the debris away from the shoreline, resulting in a large pile. Cleaning this pile of ocean-bound trash was imperative in order to prevent harm to wildlife and avoid plastic burn off. ⠀
Comment below how many super sacks you think we filled. ⠀
Stay tuned to find how much we collected.⠀
