Most of the items we recover at our cleanups are single-use, could have been reused, recycled, or converted into energy. In order to manage the amount of pounds pulled from the ocean and coastlines, we use different bins to help sort the trash. Swipe to see our glass, plastic, and aluminum bins.
Glass bottles are 100% recyclable. Recycling one glass bottle saves enough energy to power a 100-watt light bulb for 4 hours or a compact fluorescent bulb for 20 hours!
Did you know that a typical family consumes 182 gallons of soda, 29 gallons of juice, 104 gallons of milk, and 26 gallons of bottled water each year? Recycling these plastic containers can save around twice as much energy as burning it or incinerating it.
Recycling one aluminum can save enough energy to run a TV for about 2 hours. An aluminum can that is thrown away today will still be an aluminum can 500 years from now.
