Our crews always find a lot of single-use plastics during our cleanups. But sometimes we’ll pull up something a bit more unusual—like this restaurant glass rack.
Plastic pollution isn’t always the result of offshore dumping or careless habits. And while reducing single-use plastic consumption is an absolutely crucial part of keeping plastic out of the ocean, it’s not the only part.
Sometimes it just comes down to being thoughtful. Glass racks like this are typically made from polypropylene, which is accepted by most communal recycling facilities.
We’ll never know for certain how this glass rack entered the ocean, but bringing larger plastic items inside during storms can also prevent items like this from being blown around and into the ocean.
