Today is Shark Awareness Day! One-third of all open-ocean shark species are listed as threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The list of threatened sharks includes Great White Sharks, Great Hammerhead Sharks, and Shortfin Mako Sharks. The primary cause for the decline in open-ocean shark populations is overfishing. By encouraging countries to regulate the number of sharks that can be caught, we can help save rapidly declining shark populations.
