Artifical Light can lead sea turtle hatchlings astray from their goal of reaching the ocean. Sea turtles are born with the natural instinct to follow the brightest light to the ocean. Usually, this light comes from the reflection of the sun or moon on the water, but artificial lighting at night can be the brightest light. By following the wrong light, the hatchlings can become dehydrated or exhausted, and more likely to fall victim to predation. This can cause a delay in achieving their goal of reaching the ocean or never being able to reach it at all.
