Overfishing and unsustainable fishing practices are proving lethal to fish populations all over the world. Cyanide and dynamite fishing, while illegal, are practiced regularly in the Philippines. While cyanide fishing does not kill any fish in the process, it can kill up to one square meter of coral for every live fish caught. Due to cyanide fishing, the Calamianes fishery is on the verge of collapse between the loss of fish and dying coral. Dynamite fishing, however, is more destructive. The dynamite is set off underwater to kill fish for easy and quick collection. In the process, the dynamite is also destroying the coral which can take over a century to recover. By banning these illegal practices and practicing more sustainable fishing methods, we can save the reefs as well as help fish populations bounce back. #4Ocean #OceanConservation #JoinTheMovement
