The trash that I pick up is nearly all single use food or beverage containers. Isn’t it insane that we have to recycle but businesses have their trash picked up and brought to landfills or to be incinerated. It is estimated that about 80% of trash could have been recyclable. I’m told that it’s too expensive for businesses like restaurants, bars, hotels, amusement parks, supermarkets etc. to have to recycle. What I don’t understand is why our government or even environmental groups care about what it would cost businesses to recycle or why we tax payers fund cleaning up the pollution businesses cause. Banning plastic straws and bags is an improvement but we need to do more. We subsidize oil & plastic to keep the cost down. What if we subsidized alternatives like hemp or algae instead? I have been looking for representation for legislation to require businesses to recycle for a long time. We all should be composting as well but maybe that’s another topic. If there was a system for consumers to get a deposit for recycling their containers, it would keep these materials out of landfills & incinerators while incentivizing people to clean our streets, waterways and green areas. As consumers we should do our best to buy sustainable brands and reduce our waste. I will continue to be against plastic, advocate for hemp and shop sustainably. Will you join me? Please check out my groups or the some of the products I use. I also have a couple petitions in my bio. Hemp could be used to make biodegradable & recyclable plastic. #breakfreefromplastic #growhemp
