Black History Month to me is a time where we as people no matter what color, race or ethnicity, get to celebrate all the accomplishments set by our Afro-American ancestors, not just the well known figures like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, although their struggles are respected and honored as incredible leaders. BHM is a time to celebrate the lesser known African American figures like Ursula M Burns (Chairman at Xerox/former CEO at Xerox) - the first black women to be a CEO at a Fortune 500 company, or Douglas Lee "Doug" Williams, who was the first black Quarterback to play in a Super Bowl. There's also Mae Carol Jenison, the first African American women astronaut to go to outerspace, and the fashion industry's Daniel Day, aka Dapper Dan, a first-of-its-kind designer and fore father of the urban fashion, streetwear world we live in. These are all people of color who should be celebrated and given praise as they were all leaders in their respective fields. Nike delivers a bold message of EQUALITY on this year's Black History Month Air Force 1 High, representing equal rights and opportunities for all people.
