“Change equals self-improvement. Push yourself to places you haven’t been before.” -Pat Summitt •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• This year I have been incorporating a lot more strength training for my upper body and core. As an ultra runner I typically focus most of my training on my legs. While leg strength is important for running, so is upper body strength. I get a lot of questions about this, so let me briefly explain. Here are a few reasons why upper body training is important for runners: 1️⃣ Better posture and form- increasing upper body strength helps both, which translates into better running performance. 2️⃣ Improved Arm Swing- strong shoulders and arms help keep a consistent tempo. 3️⃣ Increased Muscle Glycogen- preventing the dreaded “bonk”. Building muscle increases your body’s capacity to store glycogen. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• These are just few reasons why I am focusing on upper body more. I want to be the best version of myself and total body fitness means better performance, racing and results. I’ve got some big goals this year and I’m determined to reach them!
