Both my grandparents have since passed since I wrote this story, but I know my Gramma would be proud to have it told once again... "Today is about remembering those who died in military service. But for some it is also about remembering the times of war as well. Those who served and those supported them. My grandma Charlene (Lula Mae's granddaughter) just called me to tell me the story of her and my grandfather, pictured here on their "honeymoon". I've heard the story so many times, but always love her telling me again. My grandparents met at a dancehall during the war when she was 18. My gramma said each night they each had a new date there, but would always be smiling at each other. Finally my grandpa got the courage to ask her to dance, and they didn't separate after that. They were married 2 weeks later, and my grandmas favorite part of the story is that they didn't leave their honeymoon hotel room for 4 days. My grandfather was a fighter pilot. They had "no furniture, just a radio and two apple crates to eat on, but we got along just fine." My grandpa did not die in the war, he passed away this year.
