We have some Japanese themes running through some of the exhibitions at Nite Art this year.
At Lesley Kehoe Galleries artist Daniel Truscott will exhibit 'In Ghostly Japan'. There will be an artist talk and Butoh Performance titled “Hanya : 般若” by Shirow Kaze-Dama of Kyo-Mu-Kan from 8 - 8.45 pm.
At the Athenaeum Library artist Kyoko Imazu's exhibition 'Tunnel Books' is brought to you by Nite Art and Open House Melbourne, Kyoko will do an artists talk from 6 until 7pm during which time she will show how her tunnel books are made and explore the relationship between her printmaking and other bookbinding practice.
No Vacancy project space in Federation Square will exhibit 'Modern Classic' by artist Shun Kawakami.
And The Grainger Museum, Melbourne University Precinct, has a new exhibition entitled 'An Artists Utopia : Mortimer Menpes in Japan'. Menpes was a close friend of Percy Grainger and one of the first western artists to visit Japan and bring back art and visual materials. The exhibition is driven by the significant collection of Japanese decorative arts, textiles and domestic items acquired by Percy Grainger and his mother in the first two decades of the 20th Century.
