Every time I get a compliment about my style, it's hard for me to keep a straight face. In my mind I envision myself at 14, when I wore the same hooded sweatshirt to school every single day, to the point where my Dad told me he was going to burn the thing if I wore it again. So needless to say, style is not something I've always possessed....and frankly I still don't necessarily consider myself to be someone who is overly stylish.
However, I will be the first to say that in the last few years I've been able to develop my style into something that is uniquely me. I only wear pieces that make me feel good—whether that's something I love, or something that flatters my body type (double-bonus if it was on sale, because Lord knows I'm frugal). Some people will try to tell you style is materialistic. Don't believe a word they say. Through cultivating my own style I've been able to grow my confidence, surround myself with close friends who have similar interests, and above all, find myself.
The point of this is that anybody can be stylish. It's not something you have to be born with, nor does it require a great deal of money or a body that's a size 00. We all have a stylish woman inside of us...it's up to you to let her out.? The beautiful thing about style is that it's something a person can constantly evolve into whatever they want. There are absolutely no rules, and nobody can take it away from you. Style, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
The whole purpose behind it is to set yourself apart from the rest. Sure, every girl needs a style icon or someone's style that they can look up to, but at the end of the day style is about YOU.
