Forever, I thought rod building was for nerds and old men. Then I realized that’s what I’ve become... I decided to try my hand at one of Epic Fly Rod‘s DIY kits and build a two-hander for my steelhead trip this fall. I asked a good friend what he thought, “it’s easier than fly tying”. As a kid, it was fly tying that sealed the deal for me and showed me that fly fishing was the coolest thing ever. The fact that you could wrap thread and feathers around a hook in an artistic manner and catch a fish, that was massive. He was right though and this kit made it super easy, everything you need and detailed step by step instructions. Turns out you can wrap thread and guides around a blank in an artistic manner in order to cast a line and catch fish... I learned way more than I expected and will appreciate this rod for a long time. This is a perfect winter project or gift for a fishy friend. Check them out @swiftflyfishing.
