Off the grid, the perfect kitchen at the Olive Houses in Mallorca's Tramuntana Mountains makes you feel one with nature. Designed by architects Mar Vicens Fuster and Ask Anker Aistrup of @marplusask, the two dwellings — Pink House and Purple House — are situated high above the Mediterranean sea, surrounded by vast olive groves and stacked stone terraces. The designers built the houses to reflect the existing stone structures that scatter the landscape, taking care not to remove trees and rocks to minimise their intervention in the site's ancient topography. "This play between house and nature was further enhanced when we (literally) decided to embrace a big stone. To us the stone became the piece of art — suddenly the house was more about sculpting its backdrop and being its light box", say the architects.
