Where we'd rather be spending Cinco de Mayo.
Casa Ortega in Mexico City is the first house designed and inhabited by Luis Barragán. Described as his best-kept secret, it represents a pivotal point in the architect's career, and to this day remains an open site for the world to visit (@casaortega_1942).
The oasis that awaits outdoors explains why it's also known as Ortega Garden House. Speaking of the exterior, Barragán said: "In 1941, I made my first garden in Mexico City. I acquired a piece of land with different levels, I complemented and levelled different platforms to create a garden in compartments, recalling the beauty of the patios and gardens of the Alhambra and the Generalife in Spain".
