Welcome to part two of our Small(s) Talk series with @douglasfriedman. We’ve been working with the brilliant photographer to curate the smalls for the home he is lovingly restoring on Long Island as he is deciding on fixtures and finishes, because we both agree the details are an integral part of any design.
In January, we kicked things off in his Wet Room, next up, the kitchen! Douglas wants this room to be functional with finesse and so we have curated a list of our makers that perfectly fit the brief.
So far, it includes ceramics from UK-based makers @matthewfosterpottery and @parryceramics, as well as @mervyn_gers_ceramics in Cape Town that Douglas loves for their rustic simplicity. They’re joined by wooden cube salt mills from Los Angeles-based @thewoodenpalate that carve their handmade kitchen pieces from sustainably sourced wood from lumber mills in Kentucky and Ohio.
Cutting-edge chopping equipment arrives via Bodman Blades’ super-fine carbon steel knives (each handcrafted by @ben_bodman who built his own coal forge from an ancient 50-gallon oil drum) and @lucas_castex’s chopping boards. Last, but not, least, a special set of Tawashi brushes, handcrafted by @takadatawashi in Japan’s Wakayama prefecture from native windmill palm tree fibres, will keep everything in ship-shape condition.
Stay tuned as we move onto the next room in Douglas’s #352BDR project and follow him for additional updates.
