Photo by @christian_foto (Christian Rodriguez) Mexico city is located inside Mexico's Valley, also called Mexico's basin. This valley is located at the trans-mexican volcanic belt. It has an altitude of approximately 2,200 meters (7,200 feet) above sea level. Surrounded by mountains and volcanoes that reach elevations over 5,000 meters (16,000 feet). This valley has no natural drainage outlet for the waters that flow from the mountains, making the city vulnerable to flooding. First drainages were builded at the beginning of 17th century, using canals and tunnels. Photo by @christian_foto #mexicocity #valley #mexico
