Constructed in the 13th century to serve the caravans crossing the Sahara, it illustrates a traditional way of life centered on the nomadic culture of the people of the western Sahara. We ended up in Chinguetti to find some shelter from a sand storm but were enchanted by its historical aura as we wandered its labyrinth like streets, browsed the ancient libraries and drank tea with the welcoming locals.
