Photo by @max.lowe // The ancient stone figures that stand watch over the tiny island of Rapa Nui, known to much of the world as Easter Island, still represent an anthropological mystery unlike most any other. Although there are many theories as to their origin and meaning, to the people native to Rapa Nui, the stone men embody a concrete and humble reminder that they, and indeed all of us, stand on the shoulders of those who came before.
