Photo @stephen_matera // A small creek running through an ice cave beneath the Mendenhall Glacier, Juneau Icefield, Alaska. As the Mendenhall Glacier is retreating, it creates ice caves as the meltwater melts out the ice from underneath. The Mendenhall has retreated 1.75 miles since 1929 and continues to retreat. The blue ice is hundreds of years old at the terminus of the galcier and absorbs all wavelengths of light except blue, giving the glacier it's incredible blue colors.
