Built around 3000BC it is believed to be a burial site or place of worship. It's origins and purpose are still up for debate.
A little known fact; the site was bought by Cecil Chubb in 1915 for £6,600. He then gave it to the nation three years later.
Stonehenge has been a protected site since 1882 and is managed by English Heritage. .
