Photo by @FransLanting During my fieldwork in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, I wanted to create an image that bridged the transition from darkness to day, using elephants and doves as symbols for both. By reducing the elephants in the background to elementary shapes and selectively illuminating one dove with a hand-held fill flash, I was able to suggest both the primeval quality of the African night and the bright moment of the day’s return--an idea that ultimately succeeded in only a single frame.
