Photo by @michaelclarkphoto // This is the famous wave known as Teahupo'o, which sits about one kilometer off-shore from a small fishing village of the same name in Tahiti. Teahupo'o in Tahitian means the "Place of Broken Skulls," which makes sense when you see that the reef is only a few feet under the water where the wave breaks. On this day the waves were sizable but by no means huge. The water is crystal clear and warm enough to swim in without a wetsuit. The reef is teaming with life. Just under the wave the reef drops off massively into the dark depths of the ocean, which creates a somewhat spooky feeling when you look straight down. #tahiti #teahupoo #surfing #frenchpolynesia
