Photo by @Spono. Heading east out through #Colorado, I noticed a sizable green blotch on our map that is a nice indicator of a nationally protected area. We indulged and headed down long drawn out roads for what felt like hours before approaching a mirage-like mass on the horizon, #GreatSandDunesNationalPark. It's amazing and refreshingly odd to see massive dunes, and I mean massive, nestled into the Rockies of Colorado, not the first desertscape location you'd imagine. By massive I mean the largest dunes in North America, with star dune being the tallest at 755 feet tall. I wish we had a lot more time here to explore the 150,000 acre park, but the storm was approaching quickly and eastward we went. More stories from the #AmericanSouthwest trip @spono.
