Photo @materas // Lupine and balsamroot at sunrise, Tom McCall Preserve at Rowena Crest, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. Tom McCall Preserve comes alive every spring with a spectacular wildflower bloom. Rowena Crest is in the transition zone between the moist west side of the Cascades and drier mountains and prairies of eastern Oregon. Catch it at the right time of year, usually early May, and you can see both the blues and purples of lupine and yellows of the balsamroot together.
