Photo by @CristinaMittermeier. As the rain returns, the vast savannas of Brazil's Pantanal region flood to create the world's largest swampland. This is not an easy place to live or work. Mosquitoes, snakes, caimans, jaguars and all sorts of tropical diseases make it a challenging, yet beautiful place. More than a century ago a group of people learned how to coexist and make a living by ranching cattle that is highly adaptable to this type of landscape. The "Pantaneiro cowboys", rough, independent and immensely proud, are still alive and well in one of Brazil's beautiful ecosystems.
