A @NatGeoPristineSeas team scientist scrapes microbial samples from an iceberg in the waters off the coast of Franz Josef Land, one of the most remote archipelagos in the world located just 900 km from the North Pole. With an international group of scientists and filmmakers, the Pristine Seas team conducted an expedition to this unique area in 2013 to investigate how changing temperatures were affecting this crucial ecosystem, which is home to polar bears, whales, walruses, and myriad other Arctic species.
