Photo by @andywcoleman // The Central North Pacific stock of humpback whales split their time between Alaska and Hawaii. They spend their summers feeding in the cold Alaskan waters before making the 3500 mile journey to Hawaii. They use the waters of Hawaii to breed, to birth, and to raise their young calves in relative safety. The journey across the ocean can last 4-6 weeks. June and July are the best months to see the whales in Alaska. They begin arriving in Hawaii late November, but reach their peak numbers in January and February. #NatGeoOceansDay
