With nearly 4000 species, Ecuador has one of the most diverse populations of butterflies in the world. They seemed to be everywhere on our hikes in the cloud forest at Mashpi Lodge, one of the National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World. They also have a butterfly garden and research center where we learned about the entire life cycle of these amazing creatures.
