Haida Gwaii watchmen serve as guardians to protect the natural and cultural heritage of the Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve. Their presence is needed to protect this remote UNESCO World Heritage Site from unscrupulous looters who have stolen cultural treasure from this site in the past.
