The remnants of Tropical Storm Erika sparked a wild lightning show last week in South Florida. During the peak of the storm I counted at least 25 cloud to ground lightning strikes within a 3 mile radius of my location. #Lightning is a massive electrostatic discharge between the electrically charged regions within clouds or between a cloud and the surface of a planet. The charged regions within the atmosphere temporarily equalize themselves through a lightning flash, commonly referred to as a strike if it hits an object on the ground.
