The Wave is a sandstone rock formation located near the Arizona–Utah border, on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes, in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. It is famous among hikers and photographers for its colorful, undulating forms, and the rugged, trackless hike required to reach it. Someone once said that you can't consider yourself a landscape photographer unless you've photographed the Wave. I don't necessarily agree with that sentiment, but I do think this is one of the most incredible places to take pictures. I've visited here three times now, and each time was lucky to score one of the only 20 available hiking permits per day (for preservation). The best time to photograph the Wave is usually from around 11 am till 1 pm, when there are no harsh shadows. I hope everyone makes it here one day!
