"My family immigrated from Beijing when I was five. We lived above a Chinese restaurant. We worked hard, became British citizens. I was admitted to Oxford University early. And I have found myself reduced and objectified as an Asian woman, I have heard barrages of racist insults. Sexualised racial harassment and violence is something that many of us face regularly. It’s a big part of why I cut off my hair, chose to look less femme and wear more unfitted clothing. It makes me feel safer.
