Outfitted in iconic NASA orange, suit technician Sharon McDougle readies Mae C. Jemison for flight at the Kennedy Space Center. Dr. Jemison became the first African American woman to fly into space, spending more than 190 hours aboard the Endeavor in September of 1992. McDougle shows her quiet poise and determination, while the trailblazing Jemison's smile beams as radiant as her suit. On this moment, McDougle remarked, "I just wanted it to be a good experience for her...I wanted to do my part in making it special for her too. And for me, because I was excited about being a part of history.” .
