This is a photo of my big girls, off to a disco dressed up and ready to dance. Fast forward 6 years and my girls are locked down at home in a global pandemic and not allowed to go to their school disco tonight. They also can’t play soccer in the morning, didn’t play netball last night, their hip hop exams didn’t go ahead and their cheerleading competition is cancelled on Sunday. Their inter school cross country is cancelled and once again they will go 2 weeks of home learning and not seeing their friends. So yes this lockdown is shit for businesses and mental health of adults and we miss out on so much, but let’s spare a moment for the kids. Cos they aren’t meant to be doing childhood like this. My toddler doesn’t understand why she is locked out of Kindy yet again, why the slides are off limits and she won’t see her friends for 2 weeks. So for the kids of Auckland right now I’m so very sorry that right now, this is life and Cinderella isn’t going to any damn ball.
