UK BEACH LITTER REPORT 👀 litter is DOWN 16% ⬇️
.
each year @mcs_uk hold a HUGE beach clean event called the 'Great British Beach Clean' which takes place across the whole of the UK.
.
just short of 15,000 volunteers took to the UK’s beaches between the 14th and 17th september this year - double the number in 2017 with nearly 500 beaches cleaned (155 more than last year.)
.
despite the increase in events and volunteer numbers, the litter recorded was actually DOWN 🙌 in 2017 volunteers picked up an average of 717 litter items for every 100m surveyed, but this year that number fell to 600 items – 16% down on last year 👊 .
the results are such a positive boost, however @mcs_uk point out that litter levels fluctuate year on year and the trend over the course of the last couple of decades shows a continued increase in litter on beaches. .
.
with new plastic still being churned out at the rate it is, it's more important than ever to keep the conversation going, to keep picking up litter and to keep dodging single-use plastic when you can! because look at what happens when people join forces. well done UK 👏 and everyone else around the globe who contributes to change 🌎 .
