She was born with a rare blood disorder, Beta Thalassemia Major.For years (since 6 months old) she endured chronic blood transfusions every 3 weeks. When she was 12, we found a donor & she underwent a bone marrow transplant to cure her beta thal, enduring chemo, weeks in isolation at the hospital, then months of isolation at home, before being about to return back to school and her friends. She will be 14 this year & she is healthy, finally living life like any normal 8th grader should be. She earned her Jr black belt in Eskrima this last year (Filipino martial arts), practices yoga & can run a mile in 7 mins! The photo attached, is July 2015, a year after transplant, when we met her donor, the woman who changed my daughters life!
