Today we stand with women; all women. ?
But first and foremost, with women who are or will become victims of rape or abuse; women who have made or will have to make unimaginably tough choices to protect their own health and future — or the health and future of their families.
This week’s events are a sad reminder of how women’s rights to make personal choices, access professional health care in a safe and unobstructed way, and ultimately, control their own future, are a fragile matter in a world that allows men to impose their will onto the bodies of women.
While every life is precious, we believe that protecting the rights and the health of women is in our absolute best interest as a society.
Numerous research has proven that there are two things that play an extremely important role in lifting up communities: women’s access to education, and their right to plan their families. It’s extremely disheartening to see that women’s health and bodies are being regulated through bans and rhetorics that make us even more vulnerable, instead of introducing laws that would help protect and empower women -- laws that would truly help save lives through prevention of unwanted pregnancies, supporting young mothers, and protecting victims of abuse.
Our leaders’ decision to exploit their powers and strip us of our rights prove that their decisions are not driven by the agenda of protecting innocent lives. Instead, they’re driven by the desire to uphold patriarchy and perpetuate an industrial prison in which the most vulnerable ones have very little chance to prosper.
We feel that taking a stance in this moment is fundamentally important. For the greater good of all, we believe in women’s rights, and stand for our freedom to choose our future.
Our bodies, our choice. ❤️
