In any scene, there is always something beautiful. And in that beauty, there can be a moment of pleasure or comfort. This isn’t about pretending not to see what is painful or unpleasant. This practice is about finding a gentle way to be present with it all. We might see softness in a coffee stain. The discarded wrapper on the subway floor may sparkle. Putting our attention on a nearby plant may reveal more shades of green than we first glimpsed. Always there is some beauty. When you spot it, your Something Beautiful, notice the sensations in your body for a moment or two. What can you see (or sense, if you do not take in the world through eyesight) right now that is beautiful?
