Mindful Work Tip: Single-task. We are most efficient and effective (and feel most calm) when we are able to focus on one task at hand without distraction. This is single-focusing and it’s mindfulness in action. It’s not always possible but, when we can, choosing single-tasking over multi-tasking will reduce stress and increase serenity. And we’ll get more of the important things done. Tips for Single-tasking: 📵 Turn off notifications and put your phone out of the way. ⏱ Set a timer and focus for a set amount of time (start small — begin with 20 minutes and work your way up to 90 minutes). 😌During this time, say no to all non-essential distractions. It’s helpful to go to the washroom, drink some water, check your social media, and eat a snack before starting. 💫One of the reasons we like multitasking is that when we get stuck on our task we can escape it by checking our email or scrolling our phones, but it’s important to sit with the problem to allow space for creativity. 🍵Take a small break after you’ve focused for a set amount of time to restore your mind and body before starting a new task. Looking for a quiet space to focus?
