Having a healthy skin barrier helps to protect you from skin aggressors like the sun and air pollution while regulating and maintaining moisture. When your skin barrier is stressed, you can say ✌️ to water and other nutrients in your skin. This stress can show up in a few ways such as: 👉dull or uneven appearance 👉dryness and redness 👉uncomfortable and tight feeling From changes in seasons to using the wrong products in your skincare routine, there are a range of factors that impact the barrier, such as: 1️⃣Over-Exfoliating 💦 If you're slathering on at-home peels and masking the weekends away, your skin may be asking for a break. Less really is more. Exfoliating is critical for the health of the skin, but only when done correctly! Aim to exfoliate 1-2x a week. 2️⃣ Sub-Optimal Humidity 🏡 Your climate can have a huge impact on your skin. The key to a healthy home environment is maintaining a good relative humidity level, which is between 40-60%. Studies have shown that a drop in indoor humidity can affect your skin in as a little as 30 minutes - decreasing skin hydration and elasticity! 3️⃣Sun Damage 🌞 Sun rays can cause immediate damage, such as sunburn, or delayed effects like premature aging and melanoma. Make sure you are wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+ and we prefer mineral!) that is free of parabens and synthetic fragrances every single day.
