Our home is in a state of complete despair. It’s with tears that I write this post - she needs our help… We are truly experiencing the full force of a natural disaster yet although our community has been ravaged by destruction and abandoned by any form of organised government support in what is clearly a national emergency, she continues to show us why we count ourselves blessed to live and work on Bundjalung Country. This week we have witnessed the galvanising power of people, as regular humans have rushed to their neighbours aid, showing up on strangers doorstep’s with a mop and bucket in hand to help remove the thick layers of mud and sewage covering every inch of their lives, trekking across landslides where roads once were to deliver clean water and medical supplies to completely isolated communities, mobilising groups of civilian volunteers and turning them into a well-oiled emergency response unit through swift action and clever resource management. We are so proud of you all and honoured to call you our neighbours. Like you, we have been moved by the outpouring of generosity from near and far, not to mention the overwhelming number of ways that people have shared to support. These are our key learnings to date on the best ways to contribute… Elle x
