In colder months, a steamy hot shower may be exactly what your body craves, but your skin… not so much.
Hot showers actually damage your skin cells and tissues because our skin is not designed to handle high levels of heat. Not only does hot water strip away our natural oils (lipid barrier), but the heat reinsures scar tissue, leaving it perpetually inflamed and unable to heal.
If you already have acne and acne scars, hot showers will make it worse by aggravating it and causing your acne to spread. Worst of all you will dry out your skin by burning away your skin’s natural oils that protect your skin.
This not only increases the aging process of the skin but then sends a signal for your skin to overproduce oil leading to more breakouts.
All in all, hot showers are a big NO ❌
✅ We advise clients to use the “Baby Test” when working with their skin. In short, don’t do anything to your skin that you wouldn’t do to a baby’s skin – that includes using overly warm water or overly harsh exfoliators. Lukewarm water is the perfect temperature for washing your face.
